RTU Series
We're your headquarters for any drilling tools and service needs.
Our traditional Rock-Type Underreamer (RTU) from CSS Drilling Tools is as good as it gets for large hole enlargement to more than double its body size. The 3-arm interlocking pin system allows you to know that your hole is going to be the desired size. How Our RTU is Made
The RTU is made almost entirely of heat-treated 4140 stock to help combat the rigorous conditions of downhole drilling. The tool itself is hydraulically driven with your pumps, and with the heavy-duty spring and pistol design, it will automatically close when the flow of fluid is stopped. We take great care in making sure all tools are inspected and tested before heading to your location. Each tool is pressured up to 1500 lbs to simulate the downhole actuation and then repeatedly released to make sure that the arms close every time.
How the RTU is Used
The RTU is an excellent choice when you need to enlarge a hole that has already been drilled. It's perfect for rock drilling applications where you might encounter limestone, dolomite, or other types of hard rock. With its heat-treated steel body and carbide-tipped arms, the RTU can quickly and easily enlarge your hole to the size that you need.
Why Choose the RTU?
There are many reasons to choose the RTU for your rock drilling needs, but here are just a few:
The RTU is made of high-quality materials that can withstand the rigors of downhole drilling.
The RTU is hydraulically driven, so it will automatically close when the flow of fluid is stopped.
The RTU can quickly and easily enlarge your hole to the size that you need.
What Is an RTU Drilling Tool?
A Rock-Type Underreamer is a type of drilling tool used in the oil and gas industry. It is used to enlarge the diameter of a borehole and to remove any obstructions from the hole. The tool works by expanding a hole from the outside in and by removing any obstructions that it encounters.
How to Use an RTU
The Rock-Type Underreamer is designed for use in hard rock formations. It is most commonly used in horizontal drilling operations, as it is not suitable for vertical drilling. The tool consists of two main parts: the body and the cutting heads. The body is made up of a series of plates that are connected together, with a central hole that allows the cutting heads to pass through. The cutting heads are made of tungsten carbide and are designed to cut through hard rock.
To use the tool, it is first attached to the drill string and lowered into the borehole. The cutting heads are then set to the desired diameter, and the tool is rotated at a constant speed. As it rotates, it cuts away at the rock and removes any obstructions. As the cutting heads move further down the borehole, the diameter of the hole increases.
The Rock-Type Underreamer is an essential tool for the oil and gas industry. It allows for the efficient enlargement of boreholes and the removal of any obstructions that may be present. It is a highly versatile tool that can be used in a variety of different drilling operations. With proper maintenance and care, the Rock-Type Underreamer can provide many years of reliable service.
