How Our Fixed-Hole Openers Are Made
The hole opener bodies we produce at CSS Drilling Tools are machined from a 4141/45 heat-treated alloy bar. Cutters are machined, not cast, and then heat-treated to proven specifications to ensure maximum cutter life. Our Quality Control team consistently ensures effective, economical application of all tools in demanding downhole conditions. Hole openers, drag bits, and stabilizers are also available in odd and unusual sizes.
Features of Our Fixed-Hole Openers
The RHO Hole Opener design criteria has allowed cone pocket cross sections to be increased by approximately twenty percent. The tool has arms and cutters that can be changed to increase the size of the hole drilled using the same hole opener body. The cutter is carried on the body of the tool and retained by an interchangeable arm assembly. This system eliminates the customary pin arrangement that was used to support previous hole openers.
The arms are locked to the body by a unique, patented locking mechanism that is released by turning two set screws with an Allen wrench. The new design also allows for increased drilling performance and improved service life.
